The Manual Work Tax

Calculating how much manual work is actually costing your business, and where to cut it first.

01

The Automation

You cannot automate what you have not mapped, so start by mapping your top five manual processes in one afternoon.

List the tasks your team repeats every week, note how long each takes and how often it runs, and multiply. The number is usually larger than anyone expects. Rank them by total hours, and you have your automation priority list without a single tool decision yet.

02

The Revenue Move

Slow onboarding is a revenue problem disguised as an operations problem.

Every day between a yes and a client being live is a day of delayed revenue and rising cancellation risk. Tightening onboarding from weeks to days pulls revenue forward and lifts the odds the deal survives, which is why it is one of the highest return processes to systemise.

03

The AI Tool

Data entry is the clearest example of work a person should not be doing.

Document processing automation reads invoices, forms, and emails, extracts the fields, and files them where they belong. It replaces the most error prone and least valuable use of a person's time, and it runs at any hour without complaint.

04

The Finance Pulse

You can read a cash flow statement in ten minutes if you know what you are looking for.

Start with operating cash flow, is the core business generating cash. Then check the timing of receivables and payables. Everything else is detail. An operator who can read cash flow quickly makes faster, safer decisions than one who waits for a monthly report.

05

The Number

The average business wastes 23 hours per week on tasks that could be automated.

That is more than half a full time role, spent on work that produces no growth. The manual work tax is real, and most operators are paying it without ever seeing the invoice.
